The witcher books in order1/8/2024 I have seen a few different ways to read these novels in either chronological order, sense of the story, and what makes logical sense. From the towering peaks of the Blue Mountains, where the witcher stronghold of Kaer Morhen can be found, to the snowswept Skellige Isles, the witcher’s world is one of adventure, heroism, tragedy, beauty, and war. Great cities such as Vizima and Novigrad play key roles in the story. The main setting-the Continent-is also the home to more mundane nations and kingdoms: Redania, Temeria, Cintra, Toussaint, and Nilfgaard are some of the more notable ones. There are also other worlds and other times, and some people can visit them through sorcery. There are vampires and werewolves and dragons, and a mysterious spectral force is known as the Wild Hunt. Several of the Witcher stories recall familiar fairy tales viewed in a different light: think Snow White as a ruthless killer. The books are suffused with European myth, history, and folklore. The Witcher saga takes place in the aftermath of the first major war between the Nilfgaard Empire and the Northern Kingdoms, with a second war beginning in the middle of the series. Other races on the Continent are halflings and dryads werewolves and vampires appeared after a magical event, known as the Conjunction of the Spheres.ĭuring the centuries preceding the stories, most of the Continent's southern regions have been taken over by the Nilfgaard Empire the north belongs to the fragmented Northern Kingdoms. Those not confined to the ghettos live in wilderness regions not yet claimed by humans. The humans were victorious, and became dominant the non-human races, now considered second-class citizens, often live in small ghettos within human settlements. Human colonists arrived about five hundred years before the events in the stories, igniting a series of wars. After a period of war between the elves and dwarves, the dwarves retreated into the mountains and the elves settled in the plains and forests. When they arrived, the elves encountered gnomes and dwarves. The stories are set on an unnamed continent, which was settled several thousand years earlier by elves from overseas. The series of novels is known as the Witcher Saga. The books have been adapted into a film, two television series, a trilogy of video games (The Witcher, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt), and a graphic novel series. In Sapkowski's works, "witchers" are beast hunters who develop supernatural abilities at a young age to battle wild beasts and monsters. The series revolves around the titular "witcher", Geralt of Rivia. The Witcher is a series of fantasy novels and short stories written by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. First though here’s a little bit of background into the world of the witcher to whet the appetite. I will try and keep things spoiler-free especially if you are interested in the lore of the witcher. And so in case anyone is interested in reading this series here’s a review of the series as a whole, How I was advised to read the books in order, and a brief summary of each book including my favourite parts of the series. I have just finished reading all 8 books in The Witcher Series by Andrzej Sapkowski. I’m quite a slow reader but honestly, I found these books hard to put down, it was almost like playing the videogames again, so without further ado here’s my first book review (yeah I’m aware that rhymes) It’s the end of a short month and the end of February, we are now into March and one step closer to having gyms reopen! To kickstart our book club I have chosen a series of books that I have managed to read in a little under 8 weeks.
